چکیده

M itral stenosis (MS) is a common finding in rheumatic heart disease and can lead to enlargement of the left atrium and stasis of blood in this heart chamber. This can lead to an increased risk of clot formation in the left atrium and the left atrial appendage. In numerous studies to date, various precipitating factors for the formation of a clot inside the left atrium have been identified, including atrial fibrillation (AF) rhythm, left atrial size, duration of symptoms, advanced age, and severity of MS. Furthermore, mitral regurgitation (MR) in conjunction with MS has been mentioned as a factor which reduces the risk of left atrial clot formation. This study was performed to determine the incidence of left atrial clot in a group of patients who remained in normal sinus rhythm (NSR) and to establish the factors which play a determining role in this process.

Left atrial thrombosis in pregnant women with mitral stenosis and sinus rhythm.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to describe pregnant patients with mitral stenosis who had intracardiac thrombosis in the absence of atrial fibrillation. STUDY DESIGN We reviewed the clinical course of 3 pregnant women with severe mitral stenosis and normal sinus rhythm who had clinically significant intracardiac thrombosis. RESULTS The first patient was examined at 21 weeks of gest...

Blooming Flower in Misty Left Atrium

Left atrial (LA) thrombus is known as a common complication of rheumatic mitral stenosis. It is more common in the presence of atrial fibrillation (AF). Incidence of LA clot formation in sinus rhythm is 2.4–13.5% and the incidence is as high as 33% in patients with mitral stenosis in AF. Because transthoracic echocardiography may not detect the left atrial appendage (LAA) thrombus, transesophag...

A study of spontaneous echo contrast in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis and normal sinus rhythm: an Indian perspective.

OBJECTIVE To study the incidence of spontaneous echo contrast in left atrium of Indian patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis in normal sinus rhythm and to define its relations. SUBJECTS Transthoracic and multiplane transoesophageal echocardiographic studies were performed in 89 consecutive patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis who were in normal sinus rhythm. RESULTS Spontaneous echo co...

The Value of Quinidine in the Prevention of Atrial Fibrillation after Mitral Valvuloplasty

ATRIAL FIBRILLATION is the characteristic arrhythmia of the advanced stages of mitral stenosis, being present in 40 per cent of such cases. Paradoxically, mitral valve surgery, which relieves the obstruction and reduces the hemodynamic overload of the left atrium, frequently precipitates either transient or permanent atrial fibrillation. The reported incidence of this disorder after mitral oper...

بررسی عوامل موثر بر لخته داخل دهلیز چپ در بیمارانی که تحت عمل جراحی دریچه میترال قرار گرفته اند

Background and Aim: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a serious health problem in developing countries. Mitral stenosis is one of the most prevalent forms of RHD and one of the causes of systemic thromboembolism in Iran. The present study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between left atrial clot and mitral valve disease. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was done on all p...
